We celebrate Valentine’s Day to express our love for our significant other. But what about a day that focuses solely on celebrating girlfriends? Enter Galentine’s Day.

Galentine's Day is the perfect excuse to get together with your girlfriends and, funnily enough, Galentine's Day is a fairly recent holiday that stems from the television show Parks and Recreation.  Amy Poehler's character Leslie Knope explains Galentine’s Day like this:

"Oh, it's only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It's like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas."

Looking for the perfect way to celebrate Galentine’s Day? Here are our top ideas for celebrating on february 13th:

Throw a Breakfast-Inspired Party: Mimosas, omelets, waffles, bacon, pancakes and fruit. And don’t forget frittatas! Remember, this girlfriend-centered celebration could be held both morning or night. Exchange Gifts: For Galentine's Day, Leslie gives each of her girlfriends a gift bag with a bouquet of hand-crocheted flower pens, a mosaic portrait of each of them made from the crushed bottles of their favorite diet soda and a personalized 5,000 word essay of why they're all so awesome. Not up for this challenge?
