RabbleOn Q & A
Q: Is it the Academy Awards or the Oscars? A: Despite having two names, there is no difference between the Oscars and the Academy Awards! They are one and the same. The Oscars (or Academy Awards) is an annual event that is put on by the Academy of Motion Pictures Art and Sciences. A set of awards for artistic and technical merit are given to those in the film industry each year. The academy consists of 8,469 filmmakers and professionals (membership is invitation only) that vote for each category ahead of the award ceremony. Last summer, the motion picture academy made history by inviting an equal number of women and men to join. The official name for an academic trophy (aka the gold Oscar statuette) is the Academy Award of Merit.
Q: When is the Oscars and what time does it start? A: Mark your calendars for Sunday, Feb. 9! Starting at 1:00 p.m. EST/10 a.m. PST, E! will host E! Countdown to the Red Carpet: Oscars 2020. Then directly after at 5:00 p.m. EST/2:00 p.m. PST, hosts Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic will host E! Live From the Red Carpet with celebrity interviews. The official 2020 Oscars award show will air live starting at 8:00 p.m. EST / 5:00 p.m. PST on ABC.
