We recently spoke with founder LaSha' for a little Q&A: 

HOW DID YOU START YOUR COMPANY?

• I worked in the event marketing industry for years but always had an entrepreneurial spirit and wanted to do something to give back while still being in the event world.  I'd researched photo booths for months, but I was hesitant to bite the bullet.  One evening after a few glasses of wine and an internal "if you don't do it now you never will" pep talk, I purchased my first booth.

• My ultimate goal with starting LCI Media L3C (Love. Charity. Integrity.) was to make documentaries - the first series being about people living with HIV/AIDS and their loved ones.  I am certified as an HIV/AIDS counselor and tester, and my mom died in the nineties when I was 7 from the disease, so it hits close to home.  The photo booths pay the bills in the meantime.  

• The company is an L3C (low profit liability).  I founded LCI in Chicago although we are based in Dallas, as Illinois was one of 12 states at the time that had the designation.  L3C's are the perfect mix of a non-profit and LLC.  We can make a profit and also accept donations and apply for grants. 

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR WORK? It's nice when a new prospective client reads the "about us" on our site and says that's a major reason they want to book with us.  Most of our clients don't realize what we are all about, they just love our photo booths - and we don't blame them!

TELL US ABOUT WAYS YOU ARE GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY: When we first began we would donate 10% of our gross income to a non-profit.  That ended up being a terrible idea because 1. No one knew about us. 2. We weren't getting booked much and making any money.  I could barely pay my bills, much less donate to a charity.  The concept evolved into sponsoring a non-profit's major events for the year with our GIF Booth.  In our three years, we have sponsored Young Texans Against Cancer, Impulse Group Dallas (a division AIDS Healthcare Foundation), Big Brothers Big Sisters, and, in 2020, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
